The Canvas IV
What is the Canvas?
The Canvas is a poetry event with featured music presented by chaseGodtv and held at Houston Baptist University’s beautiful theater in Morris Cultural Arts Center in Houston, TX. With over 700 in attendance at one showing, this event is one of the largest attended poetry events in the state of Texas next to the Texas Grand Slam poetry competition. It has received national attention through the chaseGodtv YouTube channel and features some of the most creative and provoking artists from around the country and locally. People drive from all over the state, and even fly from other states just to attend this exhilarating event. This is a great show for teens, college students, young adults, and older.
The Format of the Canvas
The Canvas is essentially a poetry show but will also feature a musical guest to close the show. Unlike most concerts and poetry shows, there is no host or MC for The Canvas. It is a “rapid fire” style performance in which each performer will automatically take the stage as soon as the previous performer has exited. They will not introduce or speak about their poetry. The artists will simply let the art speak for itself. This format allows us to feature an overwhelming amount of poetry in a short period of time. Once the poetry segment is over, a musical guest will close the night out. Show runtime is about two hours, with a 30 minute DJ music segment before the show starts.
The Canvas IV
This upcoming Canvas event scheduled for April 23rd, 2015 is the fourth one of its kind and has a heavy lineup! The list of performers include Humble Beast recording artist and Official P4CM poet Jackie Hill Perry, Official P4CM poet Preston Perry, Levi the Poet, featured P4CM poet and chaseGodtv host Joseph Solomon, 2014 Texas Grand Slam champion Jeremyah “The Fluent One” Payne, featured P4CM poet Itohan Omolere, official Canvas poet Sir Thomas, official Canvas poet Byron Jones and musical guest King’s Dream Ent. recording artist John Givez. DJ Overflow will be providing the music segment before the show and in between performers. This will be the first time holding this event on a Thursday night and we are persuaded that this will be the most anticipated and highest attended Canvas show to date. This will all be held in the beautiful Morris Cultural Arts Center at Houston Baptist University (7502 Fondren Road, Houston, 77074).
Early Bird General admission tickets cost $10 and can be purchased online up until April 13th, 2015. After that, costs will go to $15 until 5pm day of the event. Attendees will be able to purchase tickets at the door for $18. Doors open at 7pm and show begins promptly at 8pm.
